
Hopeland Academic:擇校留意知多點 英國私校排行榜出爐
全面認識英國校園課程與活動 提供子女最合適升學之選
香港2019年10月18日 /美通社/ -- 近期英鎊仍處於低位,英國政府又宣佈恢復兩年「畢業生工作簽證」政策,專營英國升學的Hopeland Academic 教育中心表示詢問有關英國留學的家長人數比起上年同期增近1倍,可見很多家長都希望子女赴英留學。家長務求為子女尋找最好的教育,往往關注學校公開試成績的資訊,最近,英國極具影響力的報紙媒體毎日電訊報(The Telegraph)發佈了2019年度最佳A-Levels學院排行榜,其排名方式是將英國私校學生在A-Levels考試中取得A 至A* 的比例做了綜合排名。雖然學校排名高低能夠反映學校的師資質素,但是家長在考慮之時也應參考院校提供的課程、活動、環境、校舍等,以達至健康均衡的寄宿學習生活。
英國不少院校都提供與香港學校不同的課程及活動。課程方面,部分學校會舉辦牛津劍橋預備課程(Oxbridge Preparation Programme)和醫學院預備課程(Medical School Preparation),讓有意入讀的學生贏在起跑綫。運動方面,很多院校會提供香港少見的訓練,例如馬術、欖球、帆船運動、三項鐵人等,供學生參與及嘗試。藝術方面,某些學校提供與別不同音樂課程例如豎琴,更會提供少見的戲劇獎學金予出息的學生作鼓勵,讓學生摸索不同方面的天賦。Hopeland Academic 教育中心總監姚大衞,人稱大衞叔叔建議:「家長除了考慮成績排名外,也要了解校舍的設施或課程,從中探索學園活動的多樣性,並選擇適合子女的院校。」
大衞叔叔亦建議家長需要細心研究心儀學院的教學課程和校園生活,避免恨錯難返:「曾有家長替子女報讀名列前茅的學校,不但價錢不菲,學校更只提供課室及宿舍,課餘活動設施一切欠奉,與想像的英式寄宿學校大有分別,後來發現原來自己選了一些補習形式的學校,於是找我尋求協助。事實上,排行榜未能反映學校綜合實力。有些學校,雖然排名並非出衆,但推崇多元發展,鼓勵學生探索潛能,促使學生全面成長。在評核學校能否提供理想教育時,家長必須考慮周全。」
