因材施教，關心學習更重要
香港2018年10月18日電 /美通社/ -- 香港學生赴英留學人數近年來不斷上升，坊間有眾多排名榜，林林總總，多不勝數，甚受正為子女選擇英國寄宿學校的家長歡迎。選擇好學校，絕不是排名越高越好，每一位孩子的需要都不同，要因材施教，幫助孩子選擇一間合適的學校。
從孩子所需出發
專營英國升學，Hopeland Academic 教育中心總監姚大衞（人稱大衞叔叔）指：「香港家長過於熱衷研究排名榜，希望安排孩子入讀高排名的學校，以求孩子考入英國有名大學。一些成績出眾的學校，要求學生頻密測驗和考試，參與課外活動的時間相對減少，有學生不堪壓力，在異地又不懂尋找合適的支援，弄成情緒病反而令爸媽更為憂心。」大衛叔叔續稱：「很多英國寄宿學校重視品德教育，孩子能在英式傳統優良教育下，愉快學習，建立自信和獨立思考更為重要，家長宜因應學生水平，挑選合適程度的學校，因材施教，勿盲目追求高排名及精英制的學校。」
學術及課餘上都照顧到學生的需要
排名榜其實是一個反映學校過往一學年的公開考試成績及畢業生大學分佈的數據，每年的數據都會有落差，成績視乎該年學生的能力而定，所以排名統計只可作參考之用，不能盲目相信。大衛叔叔指：「如果孩子本身成績不錯，在港就讀 Band 1 中學，英國 Top 100 的學校已是不錯的選擇。」他建議家長應該要與孩子溝通清楚，選校亦該從孩子的興趣出發，家長宜應和孩子一同選校，了解哪所學校最適合他們。家長同時需留意學校提供的科目是否符合孩子的學術要求。不少學生都選資訊及通訊科技 (ICT) 為選修科，但不是每間學校都提供資訊及通訊科技科 (ICT)，有些只在 GCSE 提供資訊及通訊科技 (ICT)課程，學生升上A-LEVEL 就要再另選其他選修科目，所以選校時要做好資料搜集，確保學校照顧到學生的學術需要。除了學習，很多英國的寄宿學校設施全面，課外活動也是多姿多彩，甚至是「哈利波特式」的學府，擁有自己的足球場、曲棍球場、欖球場甚至室內遊泳池等；但也有部份學校的設施非常一般，學生宿舍並不在學校範圍之內，甚或類近補習社形式學校。家長不要單看網頁介紹，也可利用Google Map 科技功能去了解學校實際環境。當然若能安排孩子預先探訪學校最為理想。
中四最佳升學時機，早一年籌備升學事宜更為安心
大衛叔叔表示，家長若有意送子女入讀英國中學，中四是最理想的年齡。初中這個年紀的思想一般未夠成熟，對於學習環境的新轉變或未能自己獨自應付。中四開始留學生涯，學生可有一年時間去適應，有助日後的留學生活。英國的學校每年9月開學，家長宜應早一年時間開始籌備子女升學事宜，以確保學位及預備心情。
