2020年9月9日，AQS（日本農林水產省動物檢疫所）確認，經過基因檢測（PCR），在一名菲律賓乘客非法帶入日本的豬肉香腸中發現非洲豬瘟基因（ASF）。

在病毒分離測試中，動物衛生研究部門the National Institute of Animal Health (NIAH), 日本農研機構the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO)從該產品中分離出活體病毒。這一證據再度表明具有感染性的非洲豬瘟病毒曾抵達日本國境。
